Hyacinth

Those chandeliers of fragrance
so charmed me that four trips
and so many phone calls to try
to find a bulb was a worthy price.

But I came up empty-handed.
Spring hit and as the daffodils dressed up,
the paperwhites pressed up,
the tulips turned up and

the star jasmine just barely blossomed,
among these hid a hyacinth,
and when her unbloomed
hydra head peeked through,
it felt like an invitation: wait and see.
